JoMo - the pleasure of staying at home
3,2,1...For years we all did a countdown at the end of the week, looking forward to the weekend...
The days off where we couldn't wait to turn our backs on the holidays and embark on a weekend marathon. Warm up, party, second party, after party - and so on until the last drop of the weekend when we found ourselves tired again on the threshold of a new week!
Sound familiar? If so - it's because you too probably belong to the generation born between 1980 and 2000, better known as the millennial generation, the generation that lived their youth in fear of missing out - FoMo!
The term FoMo, or Fear of Missing Out emerged in 2013 and was added to the Oxford English Dictionary, not just to mark, but to firmly launch an overdue discussion about making sense of the natural need to stop, even for an hour or two, a day or two to stop racing against time and catch up with the urban party opportunities constantly sprinting ahead of us!
Those afraid of missing something finally got tired...Maybe someone got tired, stopped on a Saturday night, stayed home in the company of others tired from the long party sprints and so realized they had missed a lot while continually striving for the opposite....
Then others stopped, saw and realised that the fear was gone and FoMo was a thing of the past and between the covers of the Oxford English Dictionary, and in its place, calmly, without undue and hurried haste and without fear of the slipping night's fun, appeared JoMo - Joy of Missing Out!
The JoMo people actually ended an extremely exhausting relationship with their own youthful fears and anxieties to start afresh with a far more relaxed and aware concept of everyone's need to 'switch off', give themselves time alone and experience it fully and without remorse that something, somewhere is happening without our involvement!
"Solitude is a gift" Bukowski had said - a gift given to us or that we make for ourselves! A long-awaited, somewhat belated gift to ourselves...

So - what's your plan for next weekend?
