Building Difference

Building Difference is BLD's socially responsible programme that aims to improve the urban environment in the vicinity of the company's investment projects.

Our socially responsible program, Building Difference, is inspired by our desire to change living environments for the better. Through this initiative, we aim to improve the urban environment around our investment projects, creating better places to live and socialise.
We believe that true quality of life is not limited to high standards of construction and innovation, but also caring for the community and the environment. Through Building Difference, we are trying to create more green spaces, playgrounds and public spaces that not only enhance the aesthetics of the area, but also encourage social interaction and communication between residents.

The first pilot project under BLD’s long-term initiative, Building Difference, was dedicated to one of Sofia’s most beloved neighborhoods—Old Lozenets. This meaningful project embraced the principles of placemaking, aiming to transform urban spaces by tapping into the assets, inspiration, and potential of the local community.

Bringing together residents, professionals, active organizations, students, and institutions, the initiative fostered collaboration and creativity in reimagining shared spaces. It marked the beginning of a broader mission to create environments that go beyond construction—environments that connect people, reflect local identity, and enhance quality of life.

RENOVATION OF PUBLIC SPACES IN LOZENETS DISTRICT

As part of its commitment to urban renewal and cultural preservation, BLD fully implemented the restoration of Sofia’s shortest pedestrian Malko Tarnovo Str. as a donation to the Sofia Municipality. The renovation project itself was generously designed by Atelier Serafimov Architects, with the shared vision of honoring the street’s rich and layered history.

Though modest in length at just 60 meters, Malko Tarnovo Str. carries deep historical significance, holding memories and artifacts from some of the most defining periods in Bulgarian history. The restoration was inspired by this heritage and aimed to revive the spirit of the street as it once was at the turn of the 20th century.

Today, the street is once again open to the public—completely renewed with modern underground infrastructure, new paving, repainted facades, cleaned wiring, and elegant new lighting and street elements that echo its authentic historic charm.
