3.30 am
Svante and Kaia are already awake. Kaya stacks sandwiches in the backpack and then adds a thermos of boiling coffee. a 30-minute drive separates Svante and Kaia from the forest. At 4am /or is it 4 at night/ the two are there. They have sandwiches for breakfast and are in no hurry. Then they drink coffee and wait. The two wait for the sunrise. It's at this time, when the sun is rising, that the birdsong is at its loudest - a sort of morning bird concert in the woods!
And now - a surprise! Apart from Svante and Kaya, the "concert" is attended by not a few more people...
Next comes a second surprise - all these people are quite normal! They work and as it is customary to note, even have serious professions. Exactly at 9.00 am. Svante, Kaya and all the other people who are having breakfast in the woods enjoying the bird concert at this moment will be in their offices. There, of course, await them work meetings, commitments and all the other challenges that are part of the busy lives of working people...
The question, of course, is "Excuse me, but what are these people who get up at 3 in the night /or in the morning/, travel to reach a forest where they have a slow breakfast, listening to the song of the birds?"!
Well, the answer is short - they are Swedes :)
And for them, it's quite in order to start their day like that - slowly - with the birdsong and breakfast in the forest. They call itGök-otta, and "killing time" is far from its translation in English! There's no exact translation actually, but "peace and harmony first, then everything else..." is very close to the true meaning of this authentic Viking ritual!
14.30 noon
Gabriella goes home. She'll have lunch and then nap - about 30 minutes. In that half hour, however, her phone is turned off and her computer put away. Time during which Gabriella will enjoy a short but restful nap without guilt or remorse... Not because she's on vacation today, but because it'ssiesta time!
By the way, after the nap, Gabriela will return to the work rhythm, because she has a number of important commitments waiting for her for the rest of the day. However, she would never say that she is "stealing some time for herself" because siesta in Spain is really "serious business" and neither Gabriela nor any other Spaniard would seriously compromise with it! It's just that they all realise they need that 1 hour of complete rest, where it doesn't matter if they have a long lunch or a short nap - what matters is that after an hour, they will be back to the dynamics of the day and "tired" is definitely not the way they feel!
18.30 pm
Gustav has had a rough day and is feeling tired. He and his colleagues leave work. They get in their cars and drive off... It's not long before they arrive. It's chilly outside, but that doesn't deter them at all. They take off their suits, shirts, shoes and....Well, they enter the spring :)
Of course, in Iceland they are many and they are everywhere! The water temperature in the natural whirlpools is around 40°, and Gustav and his colleagues are far from the only ones relaxing in them. In fact, it would hardly be much of an exaggeration to say that bubbling hot springs are something like the official religion of Iceland :)
An hour later Gustav leaves... He seems happy because he knows he will sleep soundly tonight - like a bath :).
Svante, Kaia, Gabriela and Gustav are not just four isolated stories about the ability to assert your personal time and the power to rediscover balance every day.
